Another death in the d’Estouteville line

Bishop Pierre Antoine Jean Bach, M.E.P., Titular Bishop of Tituli in Proconsulari and former Vicar Apostolic of Savannakhet, Laos, died on 26 June 2020. May he rest in peace.

The death of Bishop Bach reduces the number of living members of the d’Estouteville line to 45.

An updated list of the living members of the d’Estouteville line will be published shortly.

The oldest living Catholic bishop has died

The Most Reverend Bernardino Piñera Carvallo, Archbishop emeritus of La Serena, Chile, died on 21 June 2020 in the Hogar Santo Cura de Ars in Santiago, Chile, at the age of 104. This is according to a press release by the Chilean Episcopal Conference:

At the time of his death, Archbishop Piñera was the last living bishop from the pontificate of Pope Pius XII; the longest serving living bishop by date of episcopal ordination; and the oldest living Catholic bishop.
